Composite Resin Bonding

If you’re seeking a cost-effective and straightforward way to improve your smile, composite bonding (or composite veneers) is one of the most effective cosmetic treatments to achieve your goals.

What is composite resin bonding?

Composite resin bonding is a form of cosmetic dentistry that involves applying tooth-coloured resin (the same material used for fillings) onto a tooth to enhance its shape or colour.

A combination of science and art, our talented team will carefully handcraft the final shape of your teeth with this versatile technique. We use highly-advanced technology as the foundation for our 3D smile design process, ensuring an unrivalled level of detail and planning.

Once moulded and set in place, the resin seamlessly integrates with your real teeth for a natural yet impactful result.

Resin Bonding Process

Appointment 1: Consultation

  • During your initial consultation, we’ll sit down and become familiar with your goals, facial structure, and dental history. We’ll also take records in the form of photos, videos, and digital scans as a basis to begin designing the shape of your new smile.
  • For most cases, we will utilise 3D smile design technology to create your new smile using these digital scans and photos. This digital design is then 3D printed and used as a guide or “blueprint” for your new smile. This digital smile design can be altered on the day for fine-tuning though still provides an exceptional base for achieving the perfect tooth shape and functionality. Some cases may not require this 3D smile design if the changes being made are quite minor.
  • If you live interstate or far away, online virtual consults are available for initial discussions, however, in most cases, an in-person consultation will often be required for digital scans and photos if required.

Appointment 2: Bonding

  • The actual bonding process occurs during a single visit. We’ll be choosing a number of shades of resins that perfectly matches your teeth to ensure the end result looks completely seamless and one that you’ll be extremely happy with.
  • Often, a review appointment is required where we can make sure you’re completely happy with the appearance of your new smile, check that your bite feels comfortable, and do any further polishing if necessary.

Benefits of Composite Resin Bonding

Just like porcelain veneers, composite bonding can be effective for improving a range of dental concerns, including:

Composite Resin Bonding FAQs

The price of composite bonding will vary between patients depending on the extent of treatment required, but on average, it can cost $350–$600 per tooth.

To get an accurate quote specific to your unique needs, feel free to book a free, no-obligation cosmetic consultation with one of our dentists to discuss your options for kickstarting your new smile!

On average, with proper maintenance, composite bonding can last up to 5 years.

It’s important to note that composite veneers aren’t quite as durable as porcelain veneers, and are more susceptible to chipping and staining.

To keep your composite resin bonding in top condition, you should:

  • Visit your dentist for your regular check-up and cleans.
  • Avoid chewing hard objects, such as your nails or ice cubes.
  • Avoid or reduce smoking.
  • Reduce your intake of coffee, tea, and red wine, as they can stain the resin and your real teeth.

Composite bonding is a minimally invasive treatment where the surface of the tooth is lightly etched to prepare for the application of resin. This means that there is essentially no damage caused to the tooth. In some specific circumstances, there may need to be a mild preparation of tooth structure, but if this is required, we will discuss it with you.

Generally speaking, composite resin does not respond to whitening in the same way your regular teeth do due to its non-porous structure. To keep your composite veneers looking their brightest, minimise the amount of staining foods and beverages you’re consuming, or alternatively, you can also replace your bonding with a whiter shade if necessary.

It’s essential to continue your regular scheduled maintenance with your dentist after composite resin bonding, as they can lose their shine and lustre over time, but with maintenance and polishing, you can expect a longer life from your bonding.
