Robina is an inland suburb, laid out to the south-west of us on the far side of the motorway corridor from the beach. Helix Dental is north-east of it, in the waterfront pocket of Mermaid Waters. Whichever way you leave Robina, the shape of the trip is the same — you are heading away from the town centre and back towards the coast, then turning into the canal streets of Mermaid Waters to reach Rio Vista Blvd.
Robina is well served by rail, but we are not on the line, so patients from that side almost always drive. That is worth knowing in advance: there is parking on site at 2/299 Rio Vista Blvd, Mermaid Waters QLD 4218, so a family arriving in one car does not have to split up and find spaces. Where we focus
Robina is a family suburb of schools, sporting clubs and multi-generation households, and the work that comes to us from there reflects that — a lot of it is about children, teenagers and keeping a whole household on a routine.
Children's appointments start early and stay short. The first visits are mostly about familiarity — sitting in the chair, counting teeth, having a look — rather than treatment, because a child who is comfortable at four is a much easier patient at fourteen. We also talk through brushing technique, diet and the timing of the adult teeth coming through.
Teenagers and adults from Robina make up most of our orthodontic enquiries. We provide clear aligners, including Invisalign and Angel Aligners — removable trays worn in sequence to move teeth gradually. Suitability depends on the movements required; some cases are better handled with fixed appliances, and we say so when that is the case. Wisdom teeth usually make themselves known in the late teens and early twenties, which for Robina households often lands in the middle of school exams or a first year of work. Not every wisdom tooth needs removing. Assessment starts with an examination and imaging to see the position, the angle and how far the roots have formed, and removal is discussed from there.

Practicalities
The hard part of family dentistry is rarely the dentistry. It is finding an hour when a parent, a teenager and a younger child are all free at the same time. Thursday runs to 8:00pm and Saturday to 2:00pm, and both are useful if the school run rules out the middle of the day. Monday to Wednesday we finish at 5:00pm and Friday at 4:00pm.
When you book, tell reception how many people are coming and roughly what each of them needs — a routine check, a first visit for a small child, an aligner review. Consecutive appointments are much easier to arrange with a week or two of notice than on the day, particularly for the after-school slots.
Good to know
Common guidance is a first visit once the first teeth come through, and around the first birthday at the latest. That visit is short and mostly introductory — a look in the mouth, a conversation with you about brushing, bottles, dummies and diet. Regular check-ups from there let us watch the adult teeth arriving and pick up problems while they are still small.
Usually, yes, and it is worth asking. Tell reception when you call how many people are coming and what each needs, and they will try to build a consecutive block so a single trip in from Robina covers the household. Longer appointments and after-school times are the constraint, so give as much notice as you can.
Aligners are removable trays, changed in sequence, that apply gradual pressure to move teeth; they are taken out to eat and clean, which means results depend heavily on wearing them for the hours prescribed. Fixed braces are bonded on and work continuously without that reliance. Some tooth movements are handled more predictably by one than the other, so which suits you is decided at assessment rather than in advance.
